Hair Follicle Drug Testing

Overview

Hair follicle drug testing provides a long-term window of detection, typically covering up to 90 days. This method is highly effective for identifying patterns of habitual use and is more resistant to tampering than traditional urine tests.

When Hair Testing Is Used

  • Pre-employment screening for safety-sensitive roles
  • Legal and family court requirements
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance (where applicable)
  • Abstinence monitoring and return-to-duty programs

Collection Process

The process is non-invasive and performed by a clinical professional. A small sample of hair (approximately 100-120 strands) is cut close to the scalp, typically from the crown. If head hair is unavailable, body hair may be used as an alternative.

What Clients Should Prepare

Donors should bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Hair must be at least 1.5 inches long for a standard 90-day test. Please avoid using styling products on the day of collection.

Turnaround Times & Results

Negative results are typically available within 2-3 business days. Non-negative results require additional confirmatory testing, which may take up to 5 business days for final review by our Medical Review Officer (MRO).

Compliance & Chain of Custody

Beacon maintains strict adherence to federal and state regulations. Every specimen follows a rigorous chain-of-custody process from collection to lab delivery, ensuring legal defensibility and accuracy.
